Zavod Voluntariat is a non-profit and non-governmental organization established in 1991. Voluntariat works for peace and justice through voluntary work, coordinates sending volunteers to partner organizations around the globe, and coordinates international work camps in Slovenia. It is a part of world-wide international organization and peace movement Service Civil International (SCI), including more than 70 partner organizations carrying out international voluntary projects and other activities for the promotion of peace, justice and sustainable development throughout the world. We consider international voluntary work as a useful tool for personal growth of individuals, promotion of social justice, intercultural learning and education for peace and tolerance. Our key activities are international exchanges of volunteers, short and long term international voluntary projects, seminars, workshops, round tables on various topics in order to stimulate active global citizenship (intercultural communication, human rights, sustainable development etc).
SCI-Italy as part of an international movement, promotes intercultural learning and the empowerment of grass root organisations and citizens through their active participation to voluntary projects and exchanges. Though most of the volunteers are young people, SCI works in different fields and with people of all ages, cultural and social backgrounds, regardless of religious believes, sexual preferences or origins.
In the field covered by present action, SCI – Italy has always been particularly active. Mostly SCI activities promote volunteering and active citizenship at all levels and are developed with a bottom-up approach. All activities are inclusive, intergenerational and gender balanced.
SCI Italy has always promoted an inclusive approach towards the participants of its initiatives and projects, e.g. involving youngsters on probation and with less opportunities, disabled people, minorities etc.
